This event will bring together illustrators and animators to discuss the role of visual storytelling in their work. From the creative process behind storyboarding and producing films to practical guidance on how to build a career in animation and film making.

This event is hosted and co-produced by the V&A Youth Collective.

Caitlin McCarthy is an illustrator and animator from London with a playful and colorful hand-drawn style. Working commercially as well as filmmaking in her down time, she enjoys bringing a sense of humor to everything she makes. Caitlin appreciates the nastier and more absurd sides of life, approaching them with affection.

Her clients include BBC, Nike, Cheerios, adult swim, and MTV. Her films have been screened at festivals worldwide including SXSW and Pictoplasma, and she is a recipient of the prestigious ADC Young Guns award.

Anna Peronetto is an artist and animator based in London. Originally from Italy, where she studied animation, Anna moved to London and initially worked at Cartoon Network, first in the Advertisement department and later as a key animator on "The Amazing World of Gumball."

Currently, she engages in various creative projects as an animator. She creates vibrant and engaging animations for educational content at Mrs Wordsmith. Additionally, Anna is contributing her animation skills to an indie game still in development and is particularly proud of her role as the sole animator for "Heartstopper," the Netflix TV show adaptation of the record-breaking graphic novel. Anna is happiest when experimenting with animation and working on inspiring projects that have a social impact.

Tosin Akinkunmi is a Grenadian-Nigerian illustrator based in London. Their work reflects an interest in exploring themes of self, beauty, diversity and identity influenced by their cultural background and childhood environment. Their work can be characterised by their use of cohesive colour schemes, high contrast, sharp lines and bold shapes. Tosin’s love for the visual storytelling in video games and comic books directly inspires their more graphic, edgier style of work.

As a self-taught artist who began honing their craft in 2018, Tosin is interested in portraiture, urban environments, graphic novels and character creation and design, but seeks to expand into product design and graphic design. Tosin has created promotional artwork for clients like Superdrug and Channel 4, and has been commissioned by the Tate Collective for 2021’s Black History Month. They’ve worked with several publishers including Flying Eye Books, Quercus Books and Hot Key Press, and has their work exhibited in Creative Debuts x Adidas ‘Art Attack’ exhibition in 2022.
